Shirley Mossman Nisbet: A Retrospective Exhibit
August 12-27, 2017
Gallery Reception Sunday, August 20, 3-5 pm

Shirley Nisbet - Oil Painting - Pink Floating in Silver - resized.jpg
This contemporary art solo exhibit includes pieces from the past 50+ years of Cape Cod artist Shirley Mossman Nisbet's experimentation with materials and subject matter. Themes include horizon, the interaction of light, sea, sky and clouds, and the expressionistic abstraction of flowers, nests, vessels, and essences of architecture.

The exhibit exudes serenity and a spiritually emotive transcendence that comes from the artist's response to the visible world and her transformation of it into the subtle nuances of the paint, color, gesture, tonality and visceral use of texture.

Pieces in the exhibit range in size from a few inches across to nine feet wide. The exhibit includes several encaustic (wax) paintings, oil paintings on paper, canvas ad board, printmaking, watercolor, and mixed media paintings with metallic pigments.

Proceeds from the purchase of paintings will go to benefit Hope Hospice of Falmouth, MA.

Using a modified medium format camera, Sean Palfrey takes one or several exposures on the same negative. This allows him to superimpose images and colors on top of one another, and create intimate textures and richness in his images. "Sand, Stone, Water and Glass" - Photographs by Sean Palfrey presents a stunning, exhuberant, and sublte array of photographs of these favorite themes inspired by visits to Chile, Puru, China, Thailand and other locations, as well as by works of art and architecture which often provide the overlay for people, natural forms and places. Poetry Reading, Photo Exhibit & Book Signing
with Lillis Palmer and Ida Little
Sun. August 17, 3:30 pm

Virga Book Cover image.jpgJoin us in the gallery for a live reading from "Virga" - a newly published book of poems by Lillis Palmer with photographs by Ida Little. Ida's photography will be on exhibit during the reading. Join Lillis and Ida for refreshments and book signing to follow.

"Ida Little’s precise and evocative photographs of everything from country roads to the play of light on water give us a world of personal images and vision that complement, indeed complete, Lillis Palmer’s poetry, which lovingly alludes to the great mysteries of life by disclosing the richness of its detail. A book to linger over during luxurious contemplative moments showered with soft summer sun or muted by the still winter, awaiting spring song."

Hugh lives in and sings about the real world, and puts the frameworks of human connections into perspective with songs of: love, humor, childhood, friendship, marriage, parenthood, blended families, justice, environmental issues, and other contemporary topics.

Hugh has performed at a wide range of venues including the Old Eagle Theatre, Sacramento , Santa Barbara Songwriter Showcase, Los Angeles Songwriter Showcase, Club Passim, Cambridge, MA, South Shore Folk Music Club, Kingston, MA, Wintertide Coffeehouse, Martha’s Vineyard, MA, Coffeehouse at the Mews, Provincetown, MA, on WERS-FM, Boston, MA, WUMB-FM, Boston, MA,

Jan Luby was voted Rhode Island’s Motif Magazine's Female Vocalist of 2011. Jan and her two siblings were born on the road to Vaudeville parents (a comedy juggler and an acrobat/dancer). Growing up back stage, living in a trailer, and traveling through 47 states before the age of seven primed her for her later entrance into the West Coast New Vaudeville scene. But first her family landed in Coney Island, New York, where as a teenager she acted and danced in the Everyman Company and Chalk Circle Players. Jan's new album, Nobody’s Girl, was released last October. Her approach to songwriting ranges from socially relevant to irreverent, heartbreaking to humorous. Her songs are evocative, lyrical and infectious personal stories.
